Victoria Mamnguqsualuk was the daughter of a family of artists. Her mother was the well-known artist Jessie Oonark (1906-1985) and many of her siblings also became accomplished artists. Mamnguqsualuk worked in many media. Her textile art is highly recognisable, first learning to sew by watching her grandmother sew caribou clothing. When she moved to Qamani'tuaq, Nunavut (Baker Lake), in 1963, she became involved with the artist co-op and learned to sew wall hangings as well broadening her skills to include carving and drawing. Over the course of her career, Mamnguqsualuk actively expanded her practice. She became well known for her printmaking and in 1970, eight of her prints were included in the first Baker Lake Print Collection.
