Paolozzi was part of a group of young, post-war British artists whose work was described by the art critic Herbert Read, in 1952, as belogning to or expressing a "geometry of fear" in the wake of the Second World War. Eduardo Paolozzi was elected to the Royal Academy in 1979. In 1989, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II as Knight Bachelor.
