Canadian, b. 1948
Born in Toronto, Jane Buyers is a nationally renowned artist whose work can be found in numerous private and public collections. She received an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art) from York University in 1973, and a Master of Education (History and Philosophy) from the University of Toronto in 1990. A highly respected instructor, Buyers taught at several institutions in Ontario before becoming a Professor in the Fine Arts Department of the University of Waterloo in 1988. She taught there for over 20 years, becoming Distinguished Professor Emerita in 2014. Elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2002, she has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the United States and across Canada. Interested in the manipulation of materials and the transformation of one element into another, Buyers has worked with a variety of processes and materials including paper, porcelain, terra-cotta, wood, bronze, wax, fabric, audio and text.
