An inaugural member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, established in 1880, Robert Harris was elected president in 1893. He is best known for his painting "The Fathers of Confederation" (1883-84), which was burned in the fire that destroyed the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa in 1916.
