Jan van Huchtenburg was known for painting military subjects, hunts and battle scenes. He was a student of Thomas Wyck (1616-1677). In 1667, he studied with Adam Frans van der Meulen (1632-1690) in Paris. Huchtenberg toured around Italy and exhibited in Holland, Belgium, France and England (London). His brother, Jacob van Huchtenburg (1644-1675), was also a painter.
