Kilbourn studied at the Ontario College of Art (OCAD U) and graduated in 1953. At that time, she received a medal for drawing and painting. Shortly after graduation she emigrated to the UK. She worked and studied wood engraving in London until 1956. Her engravings have illustrated books by her brother, William Kilbourn, and by Farley Mowat and Florence Wyle. She began to work in stained glass in the late 1960s and has created windows for St. Thomas's Anglican Church, Toronto; St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Ottawa.; St. Timothy's Anglican Church, Toronto; St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, Toronto; St. James' Cathedral Church, Toronto; and Trinity Anglican Church, Ottawa, among others. She became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1977 and a member of England's Society of Wood Engravers in 2001.
