Will Ogilvie studied in Johannesburg (1921-1924) before immigrating to the USA in 1925 where he studied at the Art Students League (1927-1930) in New York, NY. Ogilvie moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1932 and became a founding member of the Canadian Group of Painters in 1933. Having joined the Canadian army in 1940, Ogilvie was commissioned as an Official War Artist two years later and served in that capacity until 1945. He painted in Sicily, Italy and Normandy. On his return, he taught at the Ontario College of Art (OCAD U), Toronto from 1947 to 1957 and then was a lecturer at the University of Toronto from 1960 to 1969. In 1979, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.
