Earl Reiback
painter, kinetic sculptor
American,
(1931–2006)
Earl Reiback studied at MIT and his first career was as a nuclear physicist. Reiback was able to apply his expertise in nuclear irradiation processing to create his works of kinetic light art. His light boxes were termed 'lumia', a name that acknowledges the influence of the pioneering Danish-American artist Thomas Wilfred (1889-1968) who created kinetic abstrations with light in the 1920s.
