Fred Ross studied with Ted Campbell at the Saint John Vocational School, in 1944. He studied in Mexico at Taxco with Pablo O'Higgins, in 1949. In the 1950s, Ross took the position of Supervisor of Art at the Saint John Vocational School and continued there until retiring in 1970 to devote himself to painting full-time. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2002.
